Thanks for the feedback Lisa. I'd still love to know why you were charged for the brake pads - did you return it with the brake pad warning light on?

I spoke to Mercedes, who were extremely helpful. The lady agreed that the car should have been collected and also looked at photos of the car and agreed some of the costs were excessive for what appeared minor things. She removed over £300 off the bill and is also investigating why the car was not collected from my home and is working out how I cna be re-imbursed for the ferry costs of taking the car to the mainland for collection. I'm satisfied with this outcome so far and thank all of you who responded for giving me the confidence to question the invoice.

Thanks,
Lisa

Glad my advice to contact Mercedes has proved useful. Lucky that for once cynics did not leap in and tell you that contacting MB Customer Services is a waste of time. It isn't, as you and many others have shown. But of course there are cases where they do not feel they can or should help and then someone inevitably is disappointed and maybe angry. Good to read a satisfactory outcome. Please let us know the final position. Good luck.

Pity Mercedes in some form tried to rip her off in the first place though? Many people would've just paid up and then seethed.

Hi Rory,
The light was not on, but the lady explained that the pads and discs had to be replaced. I've never had to do them in the three years I had the car, so I guess it's not so bad. I am pleased they bothered to listen to me at all. The invoice was a bit misleading and at least being talked through it allowed me to know for sure what I actually was responsible for! Can't believe the bonnet charge though and how quickly the lady on the phone agreed that it did not look "excessively chipped".

Non MB service

Hi there.

Has anyone got any good advice on where to get my CLK's service A done?
I am looking at going to a Mercedes specialist rather than the dealer this time. Partly because of a bad experience previously at MB.

Is there a reliable and competitive garage in the Manchester area which anyone can recommend to me?

Thanks

In that case I cannot for the life of me imagine why you should have to pay for pads & discs. If you rent a car for 3yrs then it's going to wear out to some extent - you can't be expected to return it in factory fresh condition.

Did you get the car MOT'd before its return?

Whereabouts in Manchester? There are a few. MB Tech in Warrington (very near the M62) have a good reputation if that's reasonable for you.

Hi,Just got a reply about the querys i made over the log book not being filled in correctly,ie not filled in what oil had been used and Ayssist not being set for long life service.
At first as i said i contacted both main dealers,to go through the proper chanels, and they said send the log book down and they would fill it in and informed me synthetic oil had been used.
I have now been informed by the gentlman at mercedes head office that the service manager at Listers as told him that the last customer requested ordinary oil to be used to keep cost down and the book is just stamped with there logo not mercedes,IE Listers not listers Mercedes. Yet the guy at head office said when he checked up whilst i was on the phone to him that the service was on mercs system.
So to conclude,Nothink done about 2 main dealers not filling in the service books correctly, been conveniantly lied to telling me first synthetic oil was used then informed it was not.
To top it all just received in the post this morning,A VIP Exclusive invitation from mercedes to VIP bonus showroom event.Really chuffed about that?.
O, they did say i could get a service done at my local merc dealership and they would re/set assyst for long life and to cover Mobile,AT my Cost.

When i first spoke to the guy at head office he told me that my car was on the mb system as mb serviced on the last service. So i contacted them again to let them know that i had been told a lot of porky pies by the guy at listers and i had wrote the oil no down in the service book front (291.5 05.30)ie synthetic at the time he had told me what oil they had used.
He also said that is what the customer asked for.
Now i ask the question, what customer would get a car serviced at the same time as they parted with it.The milage was the same when i bought the car as it was on the last service.
I informed the guy at head office that i suspected that Listers had just done the minimum work and sold the car on.that the customer had no part in what had happened, that he had been told a pack of porky pies as well.
The funny thing is that same week we had bought a vw from Listers main vw dealership and it was a approved car and every think was spot on as it as been with the last 5 vw she as had.
Well the guy at MB head office said he could not help out as the car was last serviced by Listers and they Listers had not used MB listers Stamp.
Then to top it all i asked him if it was still on the Mb system as being servced by Mb, which he said it was when i first spoke to him,His reply was no it had been now taken off.
So conclusion is the only good thing is that i am now certain that you cannot trust Mb for what they tell you and i am getting the oil and filter changed by a Indy friend i can trust,as i cannot trust that listers did anythink with the car.Its a pity as it is really a super car that deserved better treatment. Now it will get some tlc.

I have read most of this thread as I am also suffering from the new fixed service interval problem.

I bought an SLK 320 in 2002, which needs servicing approximately every two years, which is fine. I bought a new CLS 320 a year ago which is now saying that I need a service even though I have only done 9000 of the 15500 prescribed miles.

Having read the thread it's clear that I am stuck with it if I want to maintain the warranty, even though there is no technical justification for it and, on low-mileage cars, can be considered environmentally damaging through the waste of oil which still has plenty of life in it.

To my knowledge MB is very sensitive to receiving 'excellent' comments when it sends out its questionnaires on satisfaction with servicing. I haven't seen it suggested elsewhere so can I suggest that low-mileage owners, on fixed service intervals, use those questionnaires by scoring the service as unsatisfactory where it is required well before the necessary mileage has been reached, making the point that there is no technical justification for it and that it is environmentally damaging in disposing of oil that still has a prefectly good life span. In conclusion we should add Hawk's proposal that fixed interval services should be every 2 years or 15,500 miles. If enough of us do it, particularly playing the environment card, we might embarrass MB into some action.

C Class servicing......please help!

Hi all,

This question is coming from a naive owner of a new Mercedes......please be patient with me.

I have recently acquired a C Class Mercedes Avantgarde year 2002, which is usually used for short journeys.

The service records from the previous owner shows that

Service A was carried out at 11,289 miles (09/2003)
Service B at 14,424 miles (01/2005)
ServiceA at 19,406 miles(06/2006)

My question is whether the car is due for service A or service B now?
Also how much should I expect to pay to an independent garage for service A or B in NW London.
Any suggestions which garage?

I would really appreciate your expert opinion.

Many thanks

Naz

Thanks for the advice. I shall book for service B.

Yes, the car was not driven much as the previous owner had health problems, unfortunately a relative.
