whats the rule with mercs with out service instruct. i dont think mine has it, my bmw has the green then red service lights which are automatic , but i cant see anything like that on my eclass dash, is it just every 10k? or...

I had a BMW for many years, and the lights system was great.... merc dont do that. They (depending on the car) have a simple mileage system. One the older cars push the trip button a couple of times and it should show the number of miles left to service, with a spanner or 2 spanners. 1 for basic service, two for major service. On the newer cars, with the mileage showing on the dash, use the steering wheel buttons to scroll forward. Should show the same info. When the service is due, it will bleep everytime you turn on the ignition tellling you to get the service done..

mines a late 98 e class, how do i know if it has the spanners, is there a symbol on ignition for example, and also i do know my trip button is under the dash brightness buttons. is that any help?? i thought if i pressed that it would reset my milometer? do you just tap it twice?
