MAKE SURE “COMAND” IS SELECTED ON THE TOP MENU, now using the Comand knob, pull it toward you to move the focus to the lower list of options. The first is System Reset and the second is Software‐Update.

Botus - still no luck. I carried out the steps you suggested exactly. Very baffling? I think it must be the discs I have burned are faulty/corrupted. Would you send me the disk you used to try? I will happily pay you for it and postage

Just read the MB Xentry Tips document again and it say to check the GPS release number before and after to make sure the update has worked. Mine is 422 as per the attached pictures. Can anybody else check theirs for me?

From the engineering menu go to NAVI - GPS - RELEASE

umm, mine is 423 and you can see the date and time are correct (shows in GMT)

not sure why your's won't work

if you look through the Eng menus you can find the other software numbers, then you can then open the update file as text document (use a copy) and look to see if the part number is supported (most are he built as a global fix) you are looking for the real MB number - but the Eng Nav menus shows this muddled (and on mine). Your displayed MB 2218703591 is not the real MB Number even though its stupidly displays saying it is.

When you print the Merc diagnostic info the MB number for my unit is 2218201426 and you can find it in the list of units supported by the update software, (the equiv of your wrongly displayed MB number for mine is MB2218700591 (and these numbers are not to be found in the update files list)

MB number as printed in diagnostic here says serial number (which is crap as its not unique). The bottom number is the one you find in the CD update list of Units supported

maybe there's a few files post bird's eye u need ?

when was that update undertaken? its a big update few like to tackle.... but mine was done by Merc in Aug 2014 so maybe other stuff I have is never, I had some fun with a poor connection in the Rear SAM and that kept telling STAR my Comand / Telematics was out of date (Dec 2020 and Jan 2021). I said Yes coz it too new - with the clock fix). But after we fixed the R SAM issue Merc now says mine is all up to date even with the clock fix.

But I still have a bug after some software changes broke the Source mute for Nav message overlay …. been chasing that for 3 years and can't fix it.... its one of their crappy updates that doesn't work. They had a lot of fun and broke all cars updated around 2008 with a Comand update - they couldn't fix it so bodged in a third idea to Mute if Radio is flat out... But I guess they then got some grown up out of the cupboard and it finally got correctly fixed and was always OK on mine before bird's eye and right after bird's eye... I suspect its some stupidity on a rare speedo update ( 4 software files for a speedo FFS !!! that update is a mistake for other reasons (its doesn't even fix the fault they developed it for). I now think that's the cause and probably what got the Comand software guys in a right mess in 2007... and they still don't know about it !!!

check the garbage you can break playing with the speedo ( the order isn't necessarily correct and the options are from a chap in the USA)

it should do - mine is correct.

I suggest you check and update the region (country) you have it set on, upon selection (in countries that use it) it rolls on to the next screen with a tick box for use of "daylight saving" or not

you may find when the car next wakes it gets over its jumbled brain.... mine took a while to work out where on the planet it was after the update (not changing on the map for a mile - which was scary - as I knew most USA guys don't use the Nav element as new mapping died for them since 2015... thus was unsure if the update killed the Nav and just allowed you to do the clock. But it does get over its self and works exactly as it used to)...

I think this update does some odd behind the scenes clear out of data that it then needs to rebuild

write to a cd …. writing as slow as possible and just write the iso file, not the pdf instructions.

Its designed to work as if its the real Mercedes update CD.... but everything is ripped out bar the Vespucci time fix. It first starts looking for the tuner... then realises it’s NOT there and goes to next step. Install it outside with the engine running (to keep voltage happy) should be less than 10 minutes....

I found left hand, little finger on the favourite button... thumb and forefinger to hold comand knob to the right, (steadying hand on the trim with other fingers), leaving right hand to do the other buttons.

if the car went to Merc to be checked out and updated but they failed to fix the clock....

you should still have a print out of what they did and what software the care has for the comand

so can you post some clues as to what lies they told you ? and what software the car is running ? I expect they don't have the disc to do the full telematic update - probably didn't even bother to make the clock fix disc either....

its a compressed file - aka zipped - containing the instructions and the ISO file

its only 1.5 meg as it only the clock fix - just like the main dealers clock fix cd does it (and here as its "compressed" 1.2 meg of air was extracted, when you open it up the air gets put back in) try opening it...

if you want to try and destroy the whole telematics ring using fake offline STAR and some good luck - allegedly the files can be downloaded to make your own CD. But I don't have them

to update all, is three bits of different software.....

the big update is the telematics update. Its now supposed to be an online handshake with Germany to prepare the car and the tool for the next steps
because when this car was first made the dealer diagnostic way back when would just keel over under the strain - so the actual programming data is held on a conventional CD. So it checks its got 14.6 volt power supply connected, checks Germany thinks it needs it, then tells you the part number of the correct CD to put in the first slot of the comand unit, then it checks the disc really is the right one against their database, when happy, you say GO !!! and you pray the car doesn't self destruct under the stain.

It loops round each module one by one, if its all on original software this update can be 3 hours (most cars' were never updated at all). If its done big miles and if any module is nearly dead, the excitement might be too much for the car and it can die midway - due to the risk its why the procedure moved "online" - so the tool can give a clue which bit self destructed and you can almost affordably fix it (just maxes out three credit cards, rather than needing a mortgage).

Below is a link to USA forum where a brave bloke describes how using a fake old out of date copy of dealer diagnostics (back then they could do offline programming), he did it at home, using downloaded junk off the internet with hacked discs.... (its a very big risk - you'll see he also thought its a simple idea with a map update - its not)

Note: the Air Con is turned off after the update and a session with STAR is required to re-enable the AC compressor

The clock fix was a home made fix by a merc fan boy in USA - it was then adopted as an official fix (using the exact same programming fix in the link I gave)

The map update is a third bit (using a third dics - this time its a DVD) taking 42 minutes and done with the engine running - unless you have a big power supply. Every time it will spit the disc and say failed after 3 mins clunking and whirring - put the disc back in and it does it second time round

After the map update the car can take a few weeks to calm down and find the map info straight away.... its "normal" to see "Activating Navigation" on and off for a few mins after start up for about a week

Bottom of this pic called here HB_APS_DVD-C_ECE is the MB number...

have a guy in the USA can't load clock fix either and his ISN'T on this list of supported units

so in a way that's GREAT news...

WOW !!! I wonder if that just a typo the list has 391 not 392 and 992 when the other guys unit is actually 692

So either be brave open the update as a txt file, edit the file adding yours carefully and save, then attempt to rename the file extension and hope the functionality stays in place - A HUGE RISK I DON'T RECCO... or we try and contact the author and get his view but I think you may have a long wait... but as least we have a reason in both cases !!!

I beamed Polar Bear a note asking - but he's not online much on the other forum where he originally shared this fix.
