Had my car booked in for a service at Mercedes Benz, Whitefield. Got a text last night to book it in online to save time!!! Did that this morning and I had to drop my keys off in the “drop off box”. I arrived, no parking spaces at all. Abandoned my car and went in, I was told I couldn’t book in at reception But had to wait for the person who was using the ONE drop off screen to finish which she didn’t as she was having problem. Eventually someone decided to get the job card to the desk and my car was booked in. It was an absolute shambles!!!! Not amused. It was straight forward last year, in the middle of the pandemic. Is this supposed to be progress?

Sound's about right. My experience with local MB dealers are the same.

Irritating I would vote with my feet.

Business are using the Pandemic as an excuse to drop standards and customer services everywhere.

I needed new glasses, obtained a prescription with eye test at local opticians by booking in during lockdown.

I wanted to shop for frames traditionally with the speed limiter so waited until shops re-opened.

Went to high street last week, Boots were open no problem and went to SpecSavers. Walked in and shop assistant pounced saying:-
"have you an appointment"?
"what for?"
"Eye test" says assistant.
"No I don't need one have my prescription here". Assistant "can I see?"
"Yes here it is, I only want to choose frames, can I look?"

"No sorry Sir you have to make an appointment"

"I thought all shops have now re-opened under gov guidelines?"

Assistant "Head Office haven't given us new guidelines"....

Vision Express much the same "You need an appointment", difference is "but we can give you one now".

Vision Express closed a £600 sale on the spot.

So how come Boots and Tesco are operating optical services normally but Opticians aren't?

The pandemic puts alot of strain on how everyone works.
Nothing is how is was or the 5 star service you may had experienced previous. There is a challenge for everyone.
So if you are not happy mention it to the dealer.

An absolute shambles was it dropping off your car. Hope you survived.

In contrast to that, I booked my car in for a B1 service and brake fluid change last Thursday at my local Indy. This morning it was collected by them at 8.30am. 1.30pm it was delivered back here and all done. And not cleaned as requested :), however it did have a good smattering of fresh Sea Gull poo on it :)

So the Pandemic is only a challenge to the larger organisations whose staff feel entitled to sit on their backsides at home...

As the law stands at the moment, if you can work from home, you should. Messages abound on roadside signs stating minimise travel. Like many as my working life is predominantly in front of a monitor, I find it more comfortable to sit down. I'm at home. Occasionally on site.

In the year of the pandemic I've delivered 33% more volumes of work, at 17% under budget, received letters of commendation from stakeholders outwith my employers organisation on 25% of my projects delivered, increased by 66% the installation of innovative LED lighted solutions to provide safer environment for members of the public.

Long may I work from home, it beats having to listen to idiots in the office ;)

btw I work for a very large organisation c43k direct employees, c240k indirect all in as a lot of delivery on site is via layers of on cost otherwise known as sub contractors, of sub contractors of sub contractors... it's a very archaic sector undergoing modernisation and rebranding :geek::shock:;)

I am with you on that one Keith, but I do miss the office banter. I normally pop into the office on a Saturday morning whilst it is quiet just to pick up/drop off paperwork :)

Yes messages abound "stay at home" but you can go on a crowded plane on vacation, visit packed shopping Malls, have 6 people in your garden for a party, again perfect example of post pandemic incompetence.

Working from home for those capable is not new, but how can a doctor properly practice without physically examining their patient, or a dentist extract teeth?

Lockdown I can understand but it is time for this to stop now (unless vaccinations fail and figures rise again to unmanageable levels).

An interesting one is Randox who are providing covid testing, mind numbing waits on the phone, idiots on "chat"
and here is a picture of one of the public faces of their operation.
Clearly they blew the budget on the horse racing.
Note the "security"
It inspires the thought that the testing is carried out in someones caravan.

That's the one I get mostly. My wife is a Dental Nurse and they often run over time, especially with emergencies. I am amazed she ask's me as cooking is not my forte

I never liked working from home, too many distractions. IMO wfh is detrimental for most employees and companies, there is generally a lack of learning whilst working, no passing on of experience, a feeling of isolation, and a low sense of worth due to limited positive contact with management. All this leads to lower productivity for most, not all, organisations. But for those that like wfh and have been able to maintain productivity and commitment then great for you
