Hi I have a E230 1997 (R reg) and the rear off side shock absorber has an irritating creaking when driving/going over bumps etc. i have tried spraying wd40 on but not worked think need to get inside it. Will this need to be replaced or is there an easy way round it? Cheers

Are you sure its shock absorber itself and not one of the myriad of rubber bushes in the rear suspension? You might want to look at the ball joint end of the rear roll bar drop links as they have been known to go squeaky - usually they tend to "knock" though when they get worn. If it turns out to be the shocker I would advise replacing both sides to keep the car balanced. You can't go wrong with Bilsteins.

The most common cause is the lower outer joint, we see a lot of them for this kind of noise.......

Yes definitely the shocker as sprayed every single joint in that area and if put your hand on the shocker and get someone to bounce it you can feel the creek vibrate in your hand.

As cole says. It will very probably be the lower hub bush if it's a loud creak. Spraying it wil not work

You need to remove/ refit the spring and lower wishbone on the side that is creaking. Then the bush will need to be knocked out/ re inserted with a pulling tool
It's best to pay a garage an hours labour IMHO

The warm dry weather will start to make a lot of things begin to squeak.

If you could move the boot you could spay PTFE in, the same with the bottom bush, loosen off the bolt 25 and do the same, you may be lucking in getting some PTFE in there.

just a thought if this don't work is it poss for someone to take the self leveling system off and put normal shockers on or would this prove a lot dearer?
