This No. 117 looks like a good choice?

No. 117 15Amps. Its Acc. ign. Switched being for the rear cigar lighter. And I only need a very low ampage 12V 5A, so well under the 15A rating. Its even got a space on one side ref the piggy back fuse wont even overhang another fuse.

Checked its function

And what it does, namely No. 117 Cigar lighter, rear

Seems ideal, other than the CL500 [which shares the same fuse diagram with the S Class saloon] has NO rear cigar lighter!

Q. Is it safe to assume that there really is the wiring behind this fuse socket to support 15A?

Is it normal they would put a fuse in an unused circuit? [it seems to be the only component it supports].

The other natural option, is the Power socket in the boot No. 134 15A. But this is a funny fuse hanging off the edge, and has a retaining lug on the top, that impedes the piggy back fuse wiring thingy.

Just to give you another option. The 'funny fuse' in the bottom picture is one of these ..... https://www.smart-stuff.parts/black-fuse-holder
Mercedes also sell them, but they're not pre-wired like that in my link. They just clip onto the side of the SAM & you fit you fuse. If your SAM is the same as those in my Smarts, there will be a row on the edge where you can fit other fuses some positions will be permanent live & some will be ignition live. You'd need to subscribe to see it all, but this https://www.evilution.co.uk/index.php?menu=electrical&mod=481 gives you the gist.
