Evening everyone.
i have halogen lights as standard, i have normal side lights and these look dull and orange next to the halogen, can i replace these for those whiteish blueish ones on ebay or halfords?
also i live on a hill is it ok to leave the car in park with no handbreak, as when i put in reverse or drive whilst on the hill it clunks a bit, so is ot ok to just leave it in park with no handbreak?
cheers in advance

Leaving it in park without the brake on is a little daft. "PARK" is only a little peg that locks into a gear on the gearbox to lock it up.

Putting two tons of weight on that isn't a good idea.

Also, if the car rolled off and mowed someone over, I believe you'd be liable.

We have differences here as I have never used my parking brake once as of yet, and I live in a very hilly area in the UK and my drive is exceptionally steep

LED side light bulbs are quite good, but then, they make my ****** bulb warning flag up.

Malcolm, the strain it puts on the gearbox is monumental when you think of the weight of the car compared to the size of the peg...

I always stick the brake on, even though it's not all that good nowadays.

If the car did roll, I don't think you'd have a leg to stand on

I have removed the parking in P bit from my above post

Yes I should use it on a hill to be safe, not on the level though. from a safety angle you are correct STU and it should be used.

Re the clonk, if you are in park on a slight slope, then the parking pawl will be held in the reverse mode, as soon as you put it in D the the load is removed from the parking pawl, so it should not clonk, doing the same and going into R, then it may clonk

Malcolm, whilst on the subject of side lights, is there anyway to stop the bulb monitoring system from monitoring the side lights? If they do at all?

To stop the CLUNK whilst the car is still in D apply hand brake and then move the shifter in P this takes the stress out of the gearbox.

If you are fitting LEDs then only by putting a resistor over the bulb, and the resistor must be able to withstand 5 watts, so they will get hot, and not easy things to lose.

I will give this a little thought and hook up an LED lamp and have a play to see if there is an easier way

Sorry jib, if the car has been stopped and put in P, then the parking pawl is then under load from one direction, so the parking brake would not help.

The other way around yes,,put the parking bake on, then D and the car will not lock into the parking pawl so thght

Lots of people with auto boxes do not use their handbrakes. One potential side effect of this is that handbrake mechanisms can seize if not exercised regularly, leading to possible mot failure (if your car is old enough).
