I am going to change the oil and filter tomorrow and I take it that the filter is at the front, Top, R/H side of the engine and accessed by undoing the black cap??
Also it says to tighten to 25NM (Which I understand) but how to measure this? Can you tighten by hand only?

Torque wrench!!, or tighten by hand until it stops, light pressure of course, then just a quick nip!! that will be ok!! remember some oil on the new "o" rings before you refit the housing!!

Smear sealing ring with oil and screw on by hand gently--then as firm as poss ! (that will be 25nm-as near as dam it) refill with oil --dont forget sump plug 1st!!--then start engine and do a quick visual check both for leaks .---let it run 5 mins switch off leave it 5 mins and then check oil level.

I have reserved the tool for pick up tomorrow. I have been doing DIY servicing on cars for about 25years and my 230TE for around 7, but as the SLK is a new thing to me I just needed to be sure. Have bought a MB workshop manual off ebay. Are they any good for DIY or just too technical? or just exploded diagrams?

The MB workshop manual that I have bought, but not got yet is:-MERCEDES SMART WORKSHOP REPAIR MANUALS DVD. It seems to cover more than one model
