Hi to you all

I have a 1986 SL300 wdb1070411A082785.

At the moment it is almost impossible to start........when cold and totally impossible when hot!!!!!!!!!

After much cranking when cold it will start but the idle is rough and will stall if drive or reverse are tried if left to idle after 2 or three minutes it will cut out and by that time if warm will not start again until cold.

In the past the car has been serviced well but this and similar problems recur time and time again.......last time this happened we replaced the fuel filter and it was fine for a while now the problem is back again.

The OVP has been changed the distibuter cap and rotor arm checked and cleaned, normal sevice items plugs leads etc have been checked and changed.

What do you all think?????????????????Please.

Hi David, Next thing to check is the fuel pump relay. Remove the relay and bridge terminals 7 and 8.(87 and 30 of the relay), you should be able to hear the fuel pump running. If not then check terminals 8 and 11 for 12volts.

If fuel pump is running ok then crankshaft position sensor would be my next check. Disconnect the co-ax plug which connects it to the ignition control unit. You should read 600-1200 ohms on a multimeter.

Thats a couple of things to try.
