SL 420 - Number of Units Built

Can anyone help on this? I am thinking of buying a 87 SL 420 and the dealer told me that these were only built between 86 and 89. Does anyone know how many units of this model were built?
Also any information on problems, performance of this year/model?

SL 420

The 107 model did finish production in 89. I think the 420SL started in 85 or 86 to replace the 380. The 300 replaced the 280 at about the same time. During the 80s there was a straight 6 and two V8 models available at any given time.

For info on performance and various other specs try this site (there is also some info on Parkers). The top half of the list is sorted in year order, the bottom half is the same vehicles sorted by model.
