I'm trying to persuade the Mrs of the merits of my buying (yet) another car to add to what i already have....

Looking at prices of say 2002 Sl's, they seem very reasonable: sensible mileage ones around for mid/late 20's (even at MB stealers).

Are there any obvious things to look out for? ie. major service items that crop up every 30k miles?? I assume that spec is high anyway, so options limited ? I'm surprised that there doesnt seem a huge diff in price between main dearlers and private/non-franchise, which obviously takes a lot of risk out of it.

Any thoughts/advice very welcome,

cheers
Nick

I was looking at SL55s last year and quite a few were very light on toys which surprised me. My advice to you is to find one like Malcolm has with all the buttons. I've got plenty on my S which makes it even better value.

When i had the E55, it was well specced, and had keyless go, distronic, etc. At first i thot a lot of it was pointless, but after a while, the keyless go for example for an absolute essential! the distronic was so good, to the point it was dangerous... u nearly nod-off while the car drives itself

I've always loved the SL, and i think the latest shape is the best of the "modern" ones, and more broadly, probably the best looking car on the planet, bar the odd super-car, and even then i'm not so sure. Only the SL's of the 60's compare.... but then there's no keyless go ;)

The two things you mention are good to have,,in fact very good, if you have the comfort seats to massage you as well,, then you are well under way
