There is a very small rip in one of the plastic rear quarter panels of my Mercedes SL hood.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to replace these plastic panels or will it be necessary to replace the hood?

The windows can be replaced and quite a few firms out there that do it, you do need to get the original type of vinyl if possible

I will see what I can find,,where are you in the UK

Hi,I too would like any info on plastic quarter light repair as my 129 also has a tiny split right where the hood folds when stowed.

SL soft top problem.

Hope you don't mind me adding another roof problem to this thread - my problem is that the outer stitching on the two track stitching on my 129 soft top has come loose for about 5 inches. Roof is still watertight as inner track stitching is fine. Can the stitching be repaired without removing whole rear section, or does this need to be removed and re-stitched on a bench - and begs question if off, might as well replace plastic windows. been quoted £299 for all 3 panels to be replaced. if you need contact, let me know.

cheers

Folding cracks the plastic below 10 degrees

After talking with an MB Mechanic after my previosu Sl's ('95) rear window split across the fold - MB unofficial take on it is that using the soft top below 10 degrees is likely to casue the plastic to crack. Later rooves had greater resilience. This info does not appear in any MB literature on the SL though....
