Hi
I have a 1999 SL320 V6
The roof has stopped working so I have checked this great site and carried out most of the resets I can find, to no avail. Have just had another lookand have found the oul reservoir for the roof totally empty.I removed the rear seats and the n/s area is covered in oil.
I guess there must be a cylinder with seals gone.
Could anyone advise, where the cylinder is, can it be repaired, and whar oil should be used to refill.
Hope you chaps can help otherwise the wife is back out on the streets and the children up the chimenies again......
Thank you

Again please accept my sincere thanks and hope you can continue helping the likes of us with much less knowledge, and smaller pockets.

The thread Television has given me shows a chap in the US who seems to charge $30 to recon your own rams, has anyoned tried him?
I will contact him if not ,and find out if he will deal with the UK,it may be helpfull to the SL owners.

Hi tel, the O rings that fail are a poor quality Austrian product.

I would do my own, you could always ask any hydraulic firm, maybe stats007 knows, I will send him a PM for you.

Have you found the one that has gone

Looking
Hi,

Sorry had a busy few days so only just picked this up. Hydraulic fluid is A000989910310 - about £10 a litre from MB - you'll need two.

If you have the rear seats out you should be able to check where the leak is coming from - all the hydraulic lines run behind the seats so it may not be a ram. The main roll bars rams are left and right - there are smaller cylinders in the boot though you'd expect those to leak there - also rams in the A-pillar for the latches. There are 12 in total I think.

Once the reservoir in the boot is filled you should be able to cycle the pump and keep an eye on things.

Whereabouts are you based?
