Does anyone no if there is any type of glue on the market that will stop my rear side plastic window on my SL from splitting. The roof is immaculate and the windows are haze and scratch free but there is a very very small split starting to appear next to were the fabric meets the window and the hood folds.

as far as I know

I think the plastic is PVC. So any PVC glue should do it. You might find that the glue worsens the problem by creating more stress around the bit you've fixed. Maybe some kind of repair tape would be a better idea?

Just for now you could use a piece of industrial reinforced Sello tape each side

Window Plastic

I have just been talking to Mr Mayer of KHM (Eurotop.de)who has done an excellent job of replacing my top.

He told me that Wopavin, the clear plastic material in all MB soft-tops, changed its formulation slightly in 2000. It was used on the 107, 124 and 129. KHM supply MB with the tops for the 107 and the 124.

The change means it is slightly less likely to crack when it is cold but it now breaks down if it gets too hot (35 C or hotter)

If it gets very hot leave the roof up until it has had a chance to cool down.

I also got detailed instructions about tucking the edges in when I put the hard top back on. A very thorough man, Mr Mayer.

They had another 129, a 107 and a 1960's 300SL all being fitted with new tops. I also saw a 107 that had had the leather uphostery renewed.

HELLO I just had the 3 Perspex Windows replaced. It is a standard wear and tear with the soft tops R129 Mercedes.

The fitter did a FANTASTIC job, My R129 2001 500 SL looks great!.The whole job for replacing the windows was £373.75 including VAT.

The guys do work for McClaren and Mercedes ..David Price the fitter is great.

They are D Class Automotive in Old Woking Surrey .

I am unsure whether to repair or replace my hood. Is it better to get a replica or a Mercedes Benz original hood and has anyone got an idea as to the cost implications

I had mine replaced by KHM near Stuttgart for 1850 euros fitted, but that was a couple of years ago. They did a first class job that uses identical materials to the MB original. A look at their price list would suggest that the cost of the components has not risen much but the fitting charge may have increased. The designer of the R129 soft-top is one of the directors of KHM and they manufacture all the R107 soft-tops for MB.

I took my car to them and made the trip into a touring holiday but they will supply parts only.
