Right, where to start?

I test drove a 1998 320 today but the one front tyre was perished on the outside edge. (plus one of the rears on the minimum mark).

Now, should the tyres wear evenly or not? I think they should so questions as follows:-

Would wear on the one side only point to:-
bushes?
springs?
suspension arms?
Tracking (but that would affect both tyres and be felt through the steering)?

It looked straight and drove well so I think it may be legit

2017 '17' Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi ST Line X 180 (sorry)
as far as i know, all mercs are slightly harder on the outer edge of the front tyres. i believe this is due to the weight of the car and the fact that most have tyres with sidewalls instead of alloys with rubber bands on them! every one ive had, and every one dad has had, (last bought at 7k miles) have all done this. admittedly between us our cars have been c and e class, but i imagine its the same across the range

You can only judge the wear by measuring the difference from one side to the other,,the 129 drives a very good line.

If the bottom swivel was worn, check with a bar, the maybe nothing wrong as it steers fine.

Thanks guys - I'm gonna have to give that car another longer check over (electrics, service history, MOT's etc) as it is local.

Its awkward that my purchase has to be so soon (Wanted to buy November/December but now by September at the latest) and time being a problem (damn day job for the next eight weeks will be 50+ hours a week of mental drainage).

I'll have a few bargaining points with it once I start talking money (maybe get extra's thrown in including private plate).
