Sl129 roof motor

HI all. My sl500s roof motor seems to be working all the time even if the roof is up or down it just keeps switching on and off is this normal
Any ideas?

Never heard of this one, the roll bar uses the same pump, it can only be a limit switch somewhere at a guess. I will have more time tonight

Just thought I would mention it same thing happens with roll bar up or down

Thinking about this, it would seem like one of the roof limit switches, and though the roof has completed the cycle, one of the switches has stuck, there is 1 on each roof fixing point.

Is the roof pump still running with the roof up as well as down

Yes it is. Its running on and off about every two seconds.

Looks like a Merc job then, will it damage the pump if I carry on?

just posted this problem on benzworld and was asked, am i sure it's the roof pump and not the vacuum pump? the unit making the noise is above the battery on the right hand side of the boot, this is the roof one i take it. What does the vacuum pump do and where is it???????????????????

The vacuum pump take care of all of the locking
