OK thanks, there are no components down there other than 2 sets of multi connectors, it is a very simple car to check on what is running or what is awake and if the passenger seat is out one could determine what is wrong with an hour.

Hmmm, Malcolm after all my testing the other week I'm still get that 0.5v on one of the CAN bars when it is supposed to be asleep. This is on all the connections from all wires leading to it and from the wire that is connected to the rear.

Will be very interested to see what Merc say about Gordon's issue as it sound exactly the same as mine, blocked drain, wet floor, dry out etc...

The connections would have to be removed from the master, the EIS and check that the voltage there is correct.

Wished I was told that a few weeks ago when I tested it...

Can you tell me where these components are so I can do it from there then please?

Its in the DIY, the EIS is the master and it feeds the wake up one side and the CAN on the other, all in the first and second connector in the sill.

Hi Malcolm, are you referring to the ..How to test the CAN.. DIY? If so, I did indeed follow all of that and that's how I arrived at the higher voltage not dropping to 0.25v. Every single component was reading 0.5v. I've got nowhere since then and presently experiencing the same issue as Gordon.
In the above, it looks like you're suggesting testing the voltages in the EIS Master which is not mentioned in this particular DIY... Confused:confused:

If the can is disconnected at the master, then the voltage can be read from that, I will add some more info to the DIY

Certainly a new battery will not help any drain.... Its all so simple CAN H and L, are they active all the time, a clamp meter on the main battery wire to check the sleeping current, and that should be 55ma.

It really is so simple to check

Been referred to Mercedes Technical folk now who have suggested it's the heater controls.... this is clearly a clueless bunch... the new battery drained in a day...

Turns out to be the Heater Control Unit that was draining the battery .... all fixed now it seems.... and at least they put that on the warranty ..... I have a meeting with the service manager and the dealer principal tomorrow to review the saga and see what else they are prepared to do to keep me happy given this was a recent purchase and their response to this wasn't great.

Will advise more after that meeting...

Thanks for the feedback Gordon,,, the heater fan is wired to an all time live terminal, the heater motor is excited from the output in the control in the dash, odd that the fan was not turning, but it might have been turning very slowly.

I hope you get a good run out of it now, good luck

Here we go again. ... another leak in the SL ... dripping g into the rear boot , top left where it meets the cover for the roof ...not much but enough to make me consider trading it .... Don't imagine it's covered by the warranty it's just come out of 2 weeks ago either....

Wil, get it under cover and sealed myself ...

I have a leak too - just like the first post in this long thread

I have a water leak inside the passenger seat well of my 2007 SL350. Does anyone have any suggestions as I can’t find where it’s coming in?

Here is a picture – note the car is parked on a slight angle.

Your help is much appreciated!
