Both of the wing mirrors on the car are permenantly on when the ignitions on. The drivers side mirror has become disscoloured and patchy.

I cant find anywhere to turn them off or to start looking for issues. I guess its something to do with the thermostat in the mirror its self but would welcome some ideas on where to start.

Thanks

Paul

The heaters run of the out side air temp sensor, I think your find that the dullness in the driverside mirror is the antidazzel breaking down, common with this type of lens, it can be replaced with a standard clear mirror.....

This is not the heater part, it is the dimming glass that has leaked out all of the fluid, the glasses cost some £300 but if you are not bothered about the dimming function you could fit a standard heated on or use a £10 stick on glass over your existing one where the heated part will still work

Where is the outside temp sensor?

The signal is taken from the car air temp sensor and the circuit turns on at below plus 5c, it is all CAN controlled

progress on wing mirror

:)The numbers are 022192

I have prized the mirror off and am just about to stick the new one in. There are two pins for the heated bit and a connector to something, the anti Daz??

So far so good.
Paul

Yes just tape up the dimming sensor wire.

The other one should not be hot this weather, I will take a re read of how they work on the 230

These mirrors heaters are switched on at temps below 5c via the front SAMs, the door controllers and the air temp sensor up front

If your mirrors were on permanently then the would get hotter and hotter, so hot that you wouldn’t be able to touch them.
There temperature should fluctuate between hot… like a cup of tea… and warm/cool over a 2 or 3 minute period.

Can you put up a picture of the discoloured and patchy mirror?

The old one has lost its fluid that dims it, its doubtful that there are 2 faults like the CAN circuit and the mirror thermostat

The worst thing that happens is the fluid is highly corrosive and it can strip paint from a door
