When I release the handbrake of my SL500 (R230) the brake release warning bleep sounds even though the pedal has released.

I have to pull the release lever many times to make it stop bleeping.

Does anyone know of a cure for this annoying trait?

Leave it in 'P' and don't use the footbrake??

This might sound silly, but try putting your foot under the parking brake pedal and "lifting" it when you pull the parking brake release.

The parking brake on my W203 doesn't seem to have a strong enough return (weak spring?) and it too ordinarily takes a few swings at the release if I don't help it along. Not a fix I know, but it might point towards where the problem lies.

The reason I asked if it went away is because this is the way that my 230 went when the left SAM started to go down. Other non existant fault followed.

I would take them out and clean the connecting pins, not much room to work and the battery has to be taken out

Did the pin cleaning work Malcolm or did you have to replace the SAM
