Happy Friday everyone!

New joiner, long time SL lover - I was hoping to get some advice from all you very well informed folk.

I'm in the market for late 2003 SL500 (7 speed gearbox) with a budget of under £12k. I have to be honest I have fallen in love with this car and my judgement is a bit off, hence why I am here.

So I hoping I could get some help on what the issues to look out for when cruising the market for this beauty of car.

I would like to think I have a sensible head on my shoulders and 1 post really put it into context. I am essentially buy a £80k car so I should expect £80k car type expenses.

Thank you in advance.

As VM above, budget a good amount of savings per year to run a SL......

Us as a garage make good money looking after SL and CL models.........

We call them money pits for a good reason.....

Search the posts for MIC and myself for running costs ( from new) and this will give you a fair idea

then enjoy your car :)

Its pretty much what you would expect from an expensive car that's now 11 years old! Just check out its history and what's been done already and how its been looked after ( eg if its been garaged all its life that's good, but then the leaks haven't been tested or fixed, that's bad)

The car is a great GT , no more expensive than its peers and a great used bargain if you get a good one that's been fettled properly

I wouldnt be paying £12k for an 03 SL unless it was exceptional AND had low mileage AND had FMBSH with all the optional service items done.

Did you get one in the end? First problem I had was water ingress in the passenger foot well. I had to remove the seat and dry carpets out and remove the blocked grommet behind the arch liner..
