I have identified some items that need replacing on my SL500 (R230), the following list are the various filters that I think are overdue replacement.

Activated charcoal filter
Air cleaner
Combination filter
Dust filter

Are these an easy DIY job to replace? If so it would save me a few bob to do it myself rather than get an indy to do it.

Thanks

Can you change a lightbulb ....

Not only can I but I have. I take it you think all the filters in my car are easily accessible then?

I'm not familiar with the SL500 (not got enough money ) :p , but will there not be just 2 filters on the car , the engine air filter and then the other one which has various names , pollen filter/activated charcoal/dust filter ??

All the filters listed were last replaced January 2010. The service book says to replace the air cleeaner element every 4 years and the activated charcoal filter every 2 years so both are due a change. I cant find a replacement schedule for the dust and combination filters. I need to find the filters to see if they need replacing.

I don't see what relevance this has ? The OP was asking a good question which deserves an answer. Unfortunately all I know is where the air filters are on my car, these are easy to access and change, but I let Merc do it all as part of the service schedule. I realise this is probably unnecessary, but I don't fancy changing the oil or other stuff, so I just let them get on with it.

I may end up doing the same and letting my local indy replace the filters at the next service. I had a quote from MB for just under £100 for the air cleaner and combined filter so not a lot of money.

Useful checklist - appreciate comments to date.

Is it also worth thinking about ABC fluid + Filter and 7G transmission oil and filter for a 2003 SL that has done 77,500 - last service was a A service in December 2013 at 74,443 miles? (Front suspension structs were also replaced in May 2014.

From my service book and general online info I will be following the intervals below on my SL500.

Change/Renew Interval
Engine Oil 2yrs
Fuel Filter 4yrs
Activated Charcoal/Combination/Dust Filter 2yrs
Spark Plugs 4yrs
Air Cleaner 4yrs
Brake Fluid 2yrs
ABC Fluid 2yrs

Sounds reasonable to me. You may not find the pugs need changing, depends on mileage, just take a couple out and have a look. Not sure about 2 years for engine oil, again that depends on mileage. I think mine has been done every year so far.

Given lack of recent servicing - despite low mileage - I am thinking B service whihc should change engine/combination filter plus check plugs, fit 3 micron filter on ABC and change 7G oil+filter.

Id it worth a new replacement/additional magnet in gearbox sump?

I'm expecting my SL to only do approx. 4000 miles a year hence I wasn't thinking of yearly servicing. My plan is to service one year and replace ABC and brake fluid the next year on a rolling schedule.
