Never had the pleasure(?) of owning a Triumph but did have s very enjoyable 6 1/2 hours driving a Vitesse from Wellington to Auckland (without breaking down). Most of my BMC days were spent dismantling and reassembling Minis, 1100s and 1300s. Add in a Ford Capri, Mitsi Colt Turbo II and a Valiant Pacer and my intensive hands on training was complete....

Well ditto the minis, 3 of them, then, MK2 cortina.
Got a company car after the Cortina, so a mini, a Fiesta ST and a 2.0 ltr HDi 306 for the wife meant I kept my hand in, 'til the '6' arrived.

I kept my hand in with a series of Land Rovers - Range Rover Classic, Defender then 2x Forward Control 101s.

Thank heavens for the more discerning car owner
I had Triumph bikes in my yoof and always wanted a TR5 or TR6 and a narrowboat
Done both, but, real life sometimes gets in the way.

John

No ambition, TR4IRS was the one to go for. A mate has a TR6, in British Racing Green. He's had it for close on 30 years, beautiful car.

Dolomite Sprint was a good un too.

I would love to, but;
I used to gave a garage and parking for 5 cars
Now, I have a workshop and parking for 2 cars
You can't park an early 1970's BL built car outside . . . . The body won't cope

I have MS and find manual gearboxes 'difficult' . . . .this can, under some circumstances, read 'dangerous'
Thus, autos only for me from now on.

John

Know the feeling.(though working on this) One of my 70's BL lives outside, shocked to see how it hasn't coped over the last 5 years. Paintshop will be its next port of call :(

My only Triumph was a Stag. It was three yrs old 30,000 miles and I loved it. Unfortunately it didn't love me and punished me most severely in the pockets. I threw money at it and it just wouldn't respond. Eventually I withdrew like a whipped puppy. Some battles are there to be lost.

The TR4 / TR5 body was the prettiest by far, but, it has to have the straight 6 PI engine for me.
The problem is that in 12 or 13 months only about 1200 TR5's were built and most went Stateside, thus a rare and expensive beast.

Nice SL John enjoy.

From another Essex resident 15 miles away who owned a Triumph TR7 as I could not afford a TR6 at the time 1981. ;-).

Wonder if there are enough of us for a pub meet?

Looks a lovely SL, loads of help on here for them as well so any problems should be easily solved

Just wanted to confirm that there is another Triumph fan on this MB forum

My parents had a red TR6 (HCO 102N) 150bhp with overdrive, sold it and bought a 2.5 PI as I needed space

Well, there are at least 3 of us, that's enough isn't it?
Any more would be a bonus

Now that I have the SL500 at home, can I ask for your advice on a minor issue
The COMAND unit has been replaced with a Kenwood DMX7017DABS unit.

Is there any way the car clock can be altered without the original COMAND unit in place?

On down side of this car is the lack of a MB handook of any description
I plan to have a play with the seat setting tomorrow, I think I have this covered, but, may yet come to you for advice

I also hope to get some photos and will try uploading some, if you are interested

Thanks
John

No way outside of setting with Star.

Drat!
I was afraid you would say that.
OK
The Kenwood unit has a large digital clock on its home page, I'll just have to ignore the small one

Thanks for the quick response

Put a small piece of black electrical tape over the clock, you will soon forget it's even there.
