Had some electrical gremlins with my SL55 for about a year. All the electrics just died and I had to be recovered. Eventually the battery charge distribution module was swapped out and the car recovered, although it did then report ongoing lack of charging, despite both batteries being strong and taking charge and auxiliaries all working ok.

Just as I was taking it for its' MoT, the red SRS light illuminates and when I try to diagnose, I get CAN Bus errors which seem to block me getting further into the problem. For the SRS light, I have checked most of the yellow connectors as I suspected maybe a seatbelt or airbag connection was suspect.

Now looking for an experienced mobile auto electrician to help diagnose and solve the problem. I am close to junction 9 on the M1, any recommendtions please?

The OBD does work but it feels as if the CAN Bus problems I have are preventing to OBD reader from interrogating further to help resolve the SRS light issue. Ultimately I want to resolve all the issues. Thanks for asking :)

I've read good things about this specialist although I have no personal experience of them.

One of the members more local will give some recommendations.

You need to find an independent specialist (or dealer) with Mercedes Star diagnostic tool. Only Star will indicate which SRS component is causing the fault. I had the SRS light on my SL55. Turned out it was the passenger seat belt catch. Cost me £90 for the diagnosis, but it was well worth it. I replaced the seatbelt catch and the light went out (eventually).

Mobile guy will likely tell you something is wrong with the SRS system, charge you a call-out fee, and you are no further forward.

Thanks Bembo, SL55 Mark and AMGEED. I have now found a mobile Mercedes specialist to come out with STAR to see if they can pinpoint and resolve the issue. I'll report back and share the details if it is succesful.

Update as promised. I used a mobile Mercedes specialist, Paul Rogers, who covers a lot of England. He resolved the SRS light reset (likeley caused by low voltage at 1 or both batteries, causing a fault that could only be reset by STAR), and diagnosed numerous other persistent faults, including the rapid consumer battery drain that I have suffered for 12 years (Heating Circulation pump, a common failure and battery drain cause), and failed passenger side SAM unit that is at the root of my CAN bus problems. Off to ebay to source replacements

I can recommend Paul at paulrogers@mobilemercedesmechanic.co.uk
