Folks,

that time when i have to replace discs and pads and sensors. All 4 rotors have an obvious lip on them so i guess need to be replaced when doing pads.
Mercedes just quoted me £482 plus vat for each front disc and £82 plus vat for a back disc each. £1351 for discs alone !!!!

Thought i would check in with my buddies and see what they think.

Is there anywhere online that you recommend for buying disc and pads where its simple and strightforward ?
What brand do you recommend ?
Is ebc red stuff the way to go to keep dust down or what are you using on your amg ?
is there anywhere i can but akebono brae pads in the uk as they seem to be highly thought of ?

I just want to order - make a saving and bring it all to the mechanic for fitting.

Thanks in advance

Ebc red are OK. Akebono are excellent if you can find them.

Brembo are fine for the disks but you may find the combo squeak occasionally.

Hi, I just found on AUTODOC brembo brake discs but they coming on 2 different sizes : 322mm and 344mm for the front axle. Which one is the right size for my cls 350 cdi 13 reg ? Thank you

I have been quoted just short of a grand for discs and brakes all round which I thought was expensive by Mercedes.

Brakes are the new money spinner as are tyres above 225 section on our roads. Big brakes and big tyres anyone would think we tracked the car every weekend lol

I would recommend the following website :

All Mercedes part numbers

Simply stick in your VIN number and pull all the correct part numbers for your vehicle to avoid the chance of ordering the wrong part.

The existing disc size is stamped on the disc I believe , along with minimum thickness

Thats alot of power the brakes need to stop.
Get the right spec for the car and use the dealers.

Although other brands may well fit, they may not cut the mustard.

All the advertised Ebay listings for SL AMG brakes don't or won't fit my SL55, went through this with numerous sellers.
In the end I got mine of Grangemouth MB, set of fronts and rears, including pads, sensors for under £800, they're worth a phone call. ;)

The ones in my link will not fit an SL55 even though the ad says they do. SL55's are not a 390mm dia disc, nor are they two piece.
In defence of the seller, he does say to give the Vin# when ordering to cross check they fit.
SL55 discs, like my previous E55 are far cheaper than those advertised. I had my fronts done for under £300 using Brembo discs and pads.

The Brembo discs in the link I posted are more than adequate to stop an SL63.

You said the discs have an obvious lip so you guess they need to be replaced.
Why replace them at a guess?
My advice would be to get the discs measured properly to see how far above the service limit they are and then take advice on if now is the right time to change them.
Running a disc down to minimum service thickness is not any safety risk, it's the limit at which the discs can be expected to perform at 100 percent efficiency, including emergency stops and also includes a safety margin built in at that thickness.

That's true, as when I contacted them the sellers said they wouldn't fit. I said why advertise them as fitting my car and they said it is a genetic listing, what ever that meant
I did however buy Brembo disc's and pads for the r230 SL500 and they were superb and half the price of MB supplied ones, kind of swings in roundabouts :)

Give Mercedes Grangemouth a call, they do forum discount and you'll get genuine parts

Save yourself some money and get Rotinger Graphite rotors. I´m not sure if you have the same disc size, but rotors for my car (CL63 AMG) cost about 340euro (pair!) shipped if I remember correctly.
Performance wise, they are on par with previous genuine non drilled rotors, I don´t feel any difference.
But they look much cooler
