HI Forum,

MBO member has got a 2017 SLC43AMG very nice...

However, on a cold day and on a slope when he brakes or drives away from a stop, it "Shudders" as if its slipping on a gravel surface.

His car does have sports tyres but it seems strange that it would give this feeling?

Any thoughts ?

Has it been back to the dealer? It is after all under warranty?

Sounds like it might be related to the issue as MB are having with the GLC and new E63S 4 matic, the summer sports tyres are scrabbling or shuddering, albeit in those cases at close to lock.
I used to experience it in my first 212 as well.
MB have ‘solved’ the issue with all weather tyres

Its been back but dealer says its tyres...As they are "Sports" just seems a bit far fetched for a car of that size and caliber to be slipping due to tyres?
Wonder if it was a plug to say bye bye to customer.

Thanks John, so it might well be the tyres then... I know when I tested the SLC last year I can't recall this happening and it was on a 350 which would have had normal all weather tyres.

Might also have been in the spring or summer Mark. The cold weather accentuates this issue
Also just a point when you mention the 350- all cars are sold in this country with ‘summer’ tyres on - we’re left to our own devices what to do when winter approaches (and everyone has an opinion!)- in the case of the GLC issue it is unusual that Mercedes took the step to fit all weather- that after extreme pressure from consumers

When it does it does the traction control light flicker on and off? If it were struggling for grip I would expect the TC to be flashing or the ABS to be kicking in (quite a distinctive noise/sensation).

Had an issue with scrabbling albeit on my W202, solved by changing tyres from Hankooks to Michelins.

Sounds like oversensitive TC tbh Mark...
