slight knocking when steering sprinter 208

I have a sprinter 208 1997 and recently by chance, I was playing with my daughter and pretending to drive by steering left and right, as you do. lol!, I realised there was a knocking sound when doing that. The sound cannot be heard when engine is running. I took it 2 a mechanic who thinks my steering rack is gone. It drives fine. Any ideas please.

Steering rack

I had the same issue when driving I have vibration in the steering. My son rocked the steering wheel when I was under the vehicle, engine not running hand brake firmly on. I held the junction where the steering gear is situated and could clearly feel the knock. I changed my steering rack, massive job when your laying under the vehicle. However now I have ESP and ABS fault lights so be careful and plan your next move carefully I can't I imagine its cheep to take it to a garage. Good luck.
