We have a SLK 320 170 series.
On the dashboard, we have a bulb out. Its the area around the passenger side heater controls.
Any idea how i can get the dash cover off [without damaging anything] so i can replace the said bulb.???
Ta.

Malcolm.
Thanks for the pic, BUT ide rather NOT take the car to MB dealer as they charge me in excess of £100 /hr to change a dash bulb....
I am proficient at most automotive jobs, i just want to know how to remove the trim without any damage...
OH and its not the dash binnacle BUT the area around the HEATER controls...Specifically the passenger heater side...
In fact if anybody could direct me to a site where they have exploded parts diagrams, in English it would also help...
I have had lots of different types of car, BMW , Porsche ,Volvo etc etc, of which most if not all i have found a good exploded diagrams + helpfull forum members...
Not just, take it to your dealer.............................

Thanks...

I'm sure there are people who know, but just re-read your response to Malcolm's reply.

Manners and a bit of courtesy cost nothing.

You are wrong here, Malcolm. I have done it.

You do not need to pull out the whole instrument cluster!

Cover the rotary switch with a cloth and pull it out with a plier without making mark on the switch. You will find a little bulb at the end of a plastic attachment.

dave.robbo.
I cant see where my post / reply would "upset" anybody.:confused:
It was posted with "please + thanks".. And as far as i was concerened courtesy. Although it may have been construed as "aggressive" if so i fully apologies...
I have posted only a few times on hear, and most times i have had a relpy of "take it to your dealer"....
If i could afford to do this i would, but i dont see the common sense of spending £100 / hr just to change a light bulb..?????
We dont all drive high end £50k+ cars..
Most Merc main dealers are a rip off anyway, and they also need to go to "charm school".. They always think there doing you a favour ,, and / or are "better" than you....
So you could say, i have a bit of a "down" on main dealers.....

I have no greivence with anybody on here.. In fact i think these forums are generally full of VERY helpfull folk only too willing to help....

Malcom
It might help to READ the post before answering , next time,, thanks...;);););)

I have a similar problem

Hi Malcolm,

I'm new to the forums (and a new SLK owner).
I also have this problem. The light that lights up the left hand of the speedo and the fuel indicator is not working. I cannot open the picture you attached (possibly because it is no longer there). Will this picture help me? If so could you please repost it? Or do you have any other advice that will help me replace the bulb myself?

Thanks.

Rod.

the instrument cluster has to be pulled out with hooks or maybe pushed out from the rear. Many MB dealers will pull it out for you
