Slk 200

Hi Folks - nice site!

I took delivery of my SLK 200 last week and am really pleased with it following a 600 mile round trip to Durham at the weekend. :)

A couple of queries though!

I have the remote operation of the roof on the key and I am really disappointed with it. :( It only works if I hold the key a few inches away from the sensor in the door handle and any movement of my hand interrupts the operation. Is this how it is supposed to be? I was hoping it would work something like this . Has anyone used this Company and are they any good?

I can find no mention in the handbook on how to manually raise the roof in the event of mechanical/electrical failure. :-? Strange, I can envision getting caught in a storm and not being able to raise it!

Finally, I purchased the perspex wind deflector (off eBay, of course! ) and I can highly recommend it. At speeds in excess of 100 mph, or so I am told  , there is no buffeting at all.

I have discovered that this system is only for the old model.

the roof up manualy is covered by the mobilo cover with the car...so if it fails they come and sort it....altho if you are in the rain i dont know what they would say....i know they suggest that over 40mph the rain doesnt enter the cabin...but i aint gonna try.

r171.co.uk do a similar device for the new r171 roof job....they are rebuilding at the mo but you can contact them anyway and see....

the reason Merc dont offer it is our nanna state health and safety laws covering the use of hydraulic equipement.

i have thedraught stop. bought it from merc with the car...i do belive they wanted me to take it without paying but i insisted they fitted to a car...nice werent they....

Thanks for that. :) I have been in touch with the guys and r171 and they say they have the units but not the special cables which are on order but with no delivery date. :(

I am getting really frustrated with the remote for the roof. I have to hold it right next to the door handle and it rarely operates without stopping and beeping. It's pants!

Mention to R171 you were passed thier details from here and you should receive a 10% discount.

I think the remote is pants too...am waiting for the unit to arrive as we speak.

the reason it is pants is the HSE say that any hydraulic system must remain still in the event of failure and cannot continue to operate incase it traps you.

as the system pressure fails eventually MB warn you, that you have 7 minutes before it depressurises and slumps into the boot.

Nanny state I am afraid.
