Hi all, after my fix with my 300SL some 6 monthes ago with the help from you guys I'm back with a problem my father is experiencing with his SLK 230 Compressor. Its on a 1999 plate, had it from new and has only covered around 29000 miles. His problem is the car will start fine and run ok. Gets to where ever he is going (generally to the golf club which is around 7 miles), leaves the car and when he comes back after about 5 ish hours the car won't start. It clicks but the engine doesn't turn. He said that the only gaugethat doesn't move is the temperature gauge ?? The cooling fan comes on and sounds noisey and runs very fast. He was coming home one day travelling down a duel carriage way doing around the speed limit and suddenly the car just died on him. Managed to pull over and the car wouldn't start. After about 20 mins or so the car eventually started as if nothing had happened. Does anyone have any idears on what the problem could be or if there are any simple checks we can do ? Look forward to any replies - many thanks.

Major electrical fault at a guess, check the battery terminals and get the battery tested, running voltage 13.6 volts.

Check the connections for the ECU and wiring generally in that area, remove the air filter and make sure theres no signs of mice living in there, Ive seen the damaged mice do to a car and its enough to write them off.

Hi Jib, thanks for your quick reply - this site is top notch. I'll advise my father of your suggestions below. He did speak to MB and said it could be the crankshaft sensor ?? Does that sound any good to you ? Thanks again
