SLK 230 front wheel bearings

Just bought a 230 which I love. Unfortunately, I need to change the front wheel bearings. I'm not short of a bob or two but am loathed to pay over £300 for replacements unless I absolutely have to, it is still, afterall, just a car. Is this a D.I.Y possibility or am I going to have to succumb to the garage's licence to print money because I have a nice car?

300 quid for front wheel bearings sounds well over the top even by stealer standards. Yes it is a possible DIY job for the reasonably competant

Last time I bought wheel bearings (for a different model) they were about £55 for each wheel from the dealer.
