Hi there everyone,i've just bought a slk for myself but made the mistake of not test driving[the seller wouldnt let me because i didnt have insurance],now i know why!!the automatic gearbox will only go into 1st and reverse so i only have one gear,i see that some helpful people want a vin no to help out -here it is-WDB1704472F11----,any advice would be apprieciated as i'm panicking,thanks Donna

Yep, and do it NOW! The Sale of Goods Act works in anything but an auction. Even with a private sale. It would be really good if you paid using a credit card or similar because then the credit provider would be liable also. Talk to your local Trading Standards office if there's resistance.

i cant take it back as i bought it privatly and the guy refused refund.has anyone else had a similar problem with their gearbox,or solutions and my boyfriend can try and resolve,thankyou Donna

sorry ,i mean do you reckon there's no there way,we read somewhere else today it could be the gearshift selector module,any views?thankyou

where are you in the uk???? might be worth disconnecting the battery over night and see if that helps, my wifes SLK did this once and wouldnt shift out of first gear.

slk gearbox

mechanic just phoned to say the problem was the gear linkage,here's hopeing:

jib, what in your opinion in miles is the life of these boxes - I spoke to Mercedes this week reference an oil change and was told to leave it until the mileage exceeded 100,000 miles :eek::eek:

The chances are that the conductor plate needs replacement

Eeeek, bit drastic, get it checked 1st, bet its the conductor plate, we change the oil and filters every 54,000 miles
