Hi,
I have an intermittent problem on my 2001 SLK 320 whereby the engine will turn over and over but won't start. Seems to be when engine has been running. Other occasions it is fine.
Have read on the forum about immobilisers, ECU's, fuses, keys etc ....
Quite a frustrating problem and I am reluctant to give it to the dealer to look at in fear of another big bill ..!!!
However, car is due a service in 2K miles.
Has anyone experienced any similar issues.... ?
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for prompt response. Think I read that somewhere on here.
Expensive .. ?
And is it a DIY job .. ?
I am fairly technically minded and have acces to a pit if required.
Thanks.

OK cool.
Just tried it again and it started.
Engine management warning light was on. Restarted a couple more times and it went off.
Looked up 'Crankshaft Speed Sensor' and it seems to play up when hot which figures in my scenario.
Thanks for your help.

They can be placed in a mug of boiling water with an ohmmeter connected,,they measure 1kΩ when good and open circuit when they fail

Job done ....

Dealer fitted new sensor this morning. Said it was most likely the issue as it was very rusty and awfully difficult to get out .... 125 quid for the job with the 4Life discount. Took half an hour.
Hopefully that is the end of the problem.
Cheers
