Hi there,

I'm interested in buying a 2nd hand SLK 350 (2005 model). The thing is that i'd like it to have Sat Nav installed, but that's limiting my choices severely.

The other thing is that i wouldn't like to opt in for some crude aftermarket solution.

Do you know if I can get the original Sat Nav made for the SLK (or very similar) installed by a certified Merc Dealer? And if yes do you have a ballpark figure of how much it would cost?

Thanks for your help.

it can be done. thick end of over £2k too.

you could ask www.comand.co.uk if they can help. but the words can do, and cheap are not allowed in the same sentence with this.

sorry.

This isnt going to be cheap or easy. We (www.comand.co.uk) dont do the SLK range of COMAND units as they require whats known as SCN coding in order to work properly in your car. These units can only be coded properly by Mercedes themselves as they have to update the FDOK system with your chassis number, send this to Germany, get a code back (which can take days) which is then programmed into your car via the STAR system.

You would be much better off getting a car which has comand already in it as it will be fully covered by your vehicle warranty. You could source a unit for your car, which must be a proper SLK unit and not say an SL unit, then get it installed (the easy bit). You would then have to take it to a Mercedes dealer and ask them to do the coding. They may or may not do it!

It wont be long before all models require SCN coding:-(

There is a way around it;) but you would need your own STAR system (MB wont skirt around it) and be able to understand German when using STAR in engineering mode :-(

It should be simple, get a cost from Braybrooks then search for costs for R171 with and without command (without should be cheaper but how much cheaper) word of warning is that some command units have been troublesome (check on the forums) at least a new fitted one would be the latest (ipod intergration) and have a guarantee, all the best on your search.

Thanks for all your help guys. Very useful info.

Another quick question for you. Nothing to do with Sat Nav. Do you know if i can get the ipod integration pack installed in all SLK350s?

From what I understand Merc says it's available for all 2005 models, but some 350s are late 2004 models. Do these 2004 models have a different (older) car stereo?

Cheers,

Dimitri

Even though the car might be registered late in 2004 it should still be a 2005 model. The factory IPOD kit should work in all SLK 350's

My slk is a registered jan 2005 model but does not hae Ipod integration in it, i have looked in glove box for wee jack plug (no sign of one).
I just use a monter itrip which has very little interference and the sound quality is very good!!
Sorry officer you need to catch me first!!!;)

The IPOD connector was an option and is not standard. You could have it retrofitted. The jack plug variety simply takes the headphone output from the IPOD and feeds into the AUX port. This is how the older COMAND 2 takes input from an IPOD or other MP3 player. The Factory IPOD kit as fitted (optionally) to COMAND APS is much more sophisticated in that it has a cradle to sit the IPOD in, charges the IPOD, displays the tracks in the cluster and allows track selection from the steering wheel controls. A far slicker implementation.
