SLK AMGKey stuck in ignition

The key is stuck in the ignition of my SLK AMG. I know this possibly means I need a new ignition lock but for now, if I lock the car with the second key, does this affect the immobiliser or alarm?

Stupid question (from me!) - are you sure the transmission is in P, as if it's not you can't get the key out!

Thank you for the thought but yes, it is in P. It's definitely a problem between the key and the ignition. WD40 works sometimes, so perhaps both the key AND the ignition are worn (my car is, after all, 18 years old). My partner has just tried to lock the car with the spare key while the best one is in the ignition; it won't! (So I guess I've got my answer. Now, I suppose, I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a solution...)

I have recently purchased a doer upper and it had a faulty selector module. At one stage the ignition key would come out of the ignition lock.
Haven't had any issues since replacing the selector module.
Just a thought.

You could try putting an electric toothbrush against the key as you try and extract the key from ignition ..Worked for me on my old River V8
