We have a leak from the back of the auto gearbox of our 97 230SLK. It appears to come from the seal on a cable coming out of the back / left hand side of the box. This appears to be the speedo cable can anyone confirm that?

I have two problems:

Since I have no dipstick I dont know how much oil has been lost, so I cant top it up and I cant drive it - any suggestions?

Should I be sending the car to the local MB independent because its an MB, or the local Auto gearbox specilist cos its an auto?

Finally if I cant solve the first problem should I use the AA to take to the repairer?

Thanks in advance.

Mark.

I am having the same problem with my SL. If you are only dripping it should be safe to take to the Dealers....

You might have a problem though as the boxes were classified as sealed for life and as such they may not work on it.

I took mine to an independant specialist and he is trying to solve it at the moment...

Changing the seal does not work ( tried that twice )
