SLK Dashboard lights don't work

Hi All,

I have a 1990 SLK230 which has stopped illuminating the dashboard instrument cluster. The various indicators and warning lamps are illuminated as usual. I have checked the fuse (number 6 in the interior fuse box as far as I can tell) which is OK. All the other lights on the car are working.

Please can you give me a clue as to fix this. Many thanks SLKman.

Display illumination

I take it you have tried turning the left side of the speedo lighting brightness control knob that sticks out.
Pull gently toward you and twist with the lights turned on and watch the display brightness change.

Slap my SLK

I had the same problem on my '97 SLK. As I didn't want to take the cluster out, I found a sharp thump on to of the dash would remake the poor connection. Same thing for the heater control. Nearly all the problems (not many) I had with my lovely SLK were electrical, and a spray can of switch cleaner was a godsend !
