SLK Electrical Question - Dimming Lights

Hi,

I have a 1997 SLK 230 Auto. When I put the heated seats on the headlights dim a bit. The heated seats have two settings and on the lower setting the headlights pulse between dim and bright, as do all my lights on the dash. It is not a major pulse but I do notice it .... is it something to worry about?

Anyone out there got any idea?

we have the same model same age and ours does the same thing. I have noticed it whilst bored in traffic. I have always thought it was a fault but it is only a minor change so just ignore it.

Someone will know the "real" answer.

You need a modified heated seats control unit N25/5 that's for model 170 with code 873 Part number 210 820 01 51.

I thought part numbers for an SLK should start 170, but could of course be wrong. The number you quote comes up as a "fitting mold" costing around £80.

you have been very specific about the part required but no suggestion of what the fault actually is - can anyone help.

I've got same ' pulse ' on all lights, if i listen hard th engine also does same. It kicks in following a surge in tickover about a minute after starting, but seems to ease a bit when i put more electrics on. Has no effect on running of car, but i think it's an issue that needs resolving. I've changed buttery to no avail, last battery went flat after been left without starting for a week, but their seems to be very little feedback on this issue? 1989 300d w124 engine 602
