check rear cluster these have problems with the contacts burning out,
Hi, no idea if you guys are still here after 15 years, however I have a (new to me) 2000 R170 SLK200 Kompressor. Lots of work just done to it, but just heard from mechanic that the light fault is now on. They don’t know what the issue is. However, a few months ago the car went through an automatic car wash and as a result, there was some dampness in the cabin (and in the engine compartment, that’s another story). It seems all the lights are working (headlights, blinkers, rear lights and brake light) so do you have any other ideas? It seems that the regular OBD scan tools don’t work on this model? Thanks.SLK bulb failure light
Do you know if the indicators flash properly when the bulb failure light comes on ?
If they don't, and all the sidelight bulbs do work OK, then it's a fault with the bulb failure unit which is part of the main lighting switch.
I've seen this with two SLKs now and initially at least it's related to a bit of dampness causing incorrect resistances in the failure measuring circuits. The problem is more common in wet weather when the air is damp and or when condensation can form inside the car.
The cure unfortunately is a new light switch - ouch! But a temporary fix is to spray the back of the switch with aerosol switch cleaner. This works by displacing the dampness, but is not a permanent cure.
