Hi Guy's, i'm in the process of a full restore & colour change to an ageing SLK the car is pretty much down to a rolling shell but i have encountered a problem with the front wing support brackets (totally rotted!!!) been on the phone today to Merc Parts spending my kids inheritance with a list as long as your arm but despite them emailing me diagrams all day they cannot locate the front chassis bracket that the wing/bumper mount to!! Having trawled the internet tonight i can't find a great amount out about them other than they may well come as part of the complete inner wing assembly! Has anyone experienced a similsr problem?? any members know of an entrepreneur who has started to produce replacements in his garden shed? i know in the death of things an angled bracket will suffice just trying to do it as O.E. as possible (ohh apart from waxoiling/undersealing that definately is not O.E.on these!!) Many Thanks Simon:(

They are part of the front wing and do rot away, only solution is to fabricate something or buy news front wings.

Wing support Bracket - I bought one!

If it is the bit I think it is I bought one from Mercedes. As the securing bolts were rusted to B*****y I had to improvise a bit to fit it.

The one I took out looked like I got it off the Titanic!

You need a patient parts guy and about half an hour examining parts diagrams to track it down.

I have just made a basic cardboard template bracket and bottom lip of the driverside (UK) front wing, holes still to be determined yet, but this bracket is impossible to find anywhere. I am getting some sheet metal offcuts soon and will fabricate them both to the best of my ability, still unsure why on the original bracket it has a slight bend in the bottom edge (where bolts go), so I've done mine flat for now. Still need to remove the bolts from the bumper as they were rusted in place and the wing came off without needing to undo those, it was so rusty.

Is the bend to add rigidity to the bracket?

It was to try and mimic this bracket. Not sure what the bend in the bottom lip is for though.

The bend/hump at the bottom may just be to try and leave a drying channel for moisture, where it joins, the other swages and lips are definitely to add strength & rigidity.

The rusted bolt in the picture that is to the right is for the bumper and wing to bolt through but what is the rusted bolt on the left of that picture for? Note there is no bolt hole below it in the bumper.
