On the R171 SLK the windows open about 1/4 inch when you open the door and then close fully when you shut the door. I think this is to stop the leaking roof seal problem that you had with the R170 SLK. Anyway the drivers side window has stopped doing this and stays open when you close the door to lock it and it stays down after the car has been locked. I did have the battery off recently to fully charge it and the car is not being used much at the moment. Is there a window re-set?

Yes there is a window reset required after battery change, I cannot remember precisely but it involves keeping the window switch button up for sometime after closing. I am sure someone will post the full procedure shortly or a quick google should find it for you..

Window reset is pretty simple, press the switch down to open the window and then continue to hold it in the down position for ~10 secs once the window is fully down.
Then lift the switch to close the window and continue to hold it in the up position for ~10 secs once the window is fully closed
