Hi there to all, hope you can advise me, I've just been quoted £3000 (or it could go to more) for my roof to be fixed on my 1997 230SLK. Nothing is bent or broke , so It will just require at most, a complete stripdown, investigation of what is broken, then replace the broken part and rebuild, this will be carried out by a ''I Quote'' A fully trained Mercedes technician, with all the latest diagnostic and repair equipment.

My main questions are:

1. done by the above technician what is the max time it takes to strip the roof
2. does it take the same time to rebuild the roof.

3. Am I Being ripped off

thanks for your help. :-?

I dont know, but it's over 33 hours worth of labour at dealer prices, assuming the plus bit is for the parts. I would have thought an experienced Merc mechanic could strip and rebuild the roof in a day, so what's he doing with the other 25 hours? I'd get a second opinion.
Assuming you can find a specialist who knows his way around an slk roof, the charge is likely to be half that for the same work. Make a few calls.

slk roof

Hi

I would be able to strip the roof in a day but to put it back together with the right tolerence would take the best part of a week. There are 180 moving parts all of which need to be set correctly for the roof to work, if you can do it in a day your a better man than I
