I am hoping someone may be able to give me a bit of advice. My 53 plate slk 230k wouldnt open using the remote, when i opened it with the key and put the key in the ignition, the alarm wouldn't deactivate, the lights on the dash came on but wouldnt attempt to start (as if there was an immobiliser problem?) 'start errot' on dash. Got recovered to local dealer, but they wont even look at it until i agree to pay them £110 an hour for diagnostics - HELP

No you are not useless,no one is good at everything, but welcome, if your car has been out in the recent rain this could be a water issue with the rear PSE pump that controls these things.

There is a modification for this, why go to MB when an Indie will do it for half the price

Thanks Malcolm, whats an Indie though? It got recovered to the dealer, thought that it was still under warranty seen as they paid for the recovery and hire car but didnt realise that you get 4 year breakdown

If it is under guarantee then you have no problems, an indie is an independent MB service outlet

out of interest, i didnt think it would it be possible for dead batterys in the key to cause "start error"and the alarm not going off if you put the key in the ignition?

suppose for the cost, its worth a try!

However as Malc said above PSE Pump is quite likely, some guy last week had problem with his, i think the alarm kept going off, central locking wasnt working etc, and his PSE pump had a cup full of water in it..
For info.. http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=28177

A-class problem.

I have similar problem.

My A-class (Y reg) wont start when turning ignition.

Attempt 1 : fired but no start
Attempt 2: fired but no start
Attempt 3/4/5: No firing just clicking, with start error displayed.

Am i right in thinking my batteris gone?
