Just bought SLK 350 and thinking of trying for more hp.
Any recommendations? I guess re-chipping is easiest

As far as I know only 20 bhp is on offer with chipping , why not fit the Amg supercharger.

give DMS automotive a ring, or email. they will remap the ECU for you.

or another is

Torquingbhp. if i get a few mins i will post up the links.

Kleeman and Brabus dealers offer a few goodies too.

http://www.dmsautomotive.com/

DMS did the slinkymobile. they both offer a full return to standard spec and full refund if you are not satisfied. the remap is virtually undetectable by dealers. and they take off the 155mph limiter. Mine will be going on thier rolling road as soon as its commisoned and calibrated.

In theory you get more torque so if you drive like for like after the change, you should gain an improvement from fuel economy as it wont need to change down as much. i say in theory as with an auto it doesn't make that much difference.

Avoid the superchips type. they just hoike out the old ECU and replace it with a new one. The others have sorted the parameters for the engine type you have and can load it thru the diagnositcs port. take around about 1 hr at your location.

I am not sure if a supercharger can be fitted on this engine. But I do know if you get hold of the AMG SLK V8, kleeman will bolt one on. cost about £19k to have done.

gives around 585bhp too.

bhp

do u think im made of money! AMG supercharger!!!ets be realistic here.
I've seen the DMS web site and AMD who re-map audi, porsche etc. All seem to do about 20 bhp extra for £300 + but i have the usual worry about buggering up my warranty - what is ''virtually undetectable'' either it is or it isnt plus is 290 bhp worth it on todays roads unless i book some track time?
5.5 sec 0 to 60 is more than enough to see off most 'boy racers' and boxsters unless they make a fight of it.
Like everyone i want 500 bhp for threepence!

I have just over 300 bhp and use them all from time to time - eg on the way to Goodwood and back yetsterday.

plus you'll us the extra torque all the time

it means that they download the filies installed on the ECU. and take out the ones with the limiter parameter and remove it, then they adjust the engine performance parameters and upload it back into the ECU. so unless a dealer downloads the files installed on the ECU and opens up the file and measure the new values against thge standard, they will not know it has been done.. they reinstall the mileage and the ECU codes for the engine and any updates the car has including its fault codes. so the car in effect stays as it was the day it was installed and last updated by mercedes.

So it doesn affect the warranty unless the fault can be atributed to a preformance upgrade, and then they have to do the followin.

both DMS and BHP will reset to standard values for you, if you want to have it checked out at a merc dealer, FOC.

you will find the ECU remap doesnt just give you BHP. it adjusts the torque so the car will feel more responsive in gear. This provide better overtaking on todays road. I have had mine on a track. it gets eaten alive by Porsches, but under acceleration off the line it leaves them behins up to about 80mph.

In theory with more torque you get better fuel economy but they dont adjust the gearbox ECU to take account of it, so you wont notice. If you pay, you can havce an ECU remap specialist alter the engine paramters to suit your style of driving, but you need a rolling road to do it on.

have you tried emailing them to see what they offer for your car?

its all relative isnt it. If uve come from a 100 bhp family saloon to an SLK its gonna feel like the starship enterprise isnt it. On second thoughts so far in 3 weeks no one's gone past me or got away quicker from a standing start - maybe ive got superkwik reations or great peripheral vision. Its all a bit hammer to crack a nut - driving skill against mega bhp

DMS will get 297BHP out of yours. and to be honest, off the line yours will be quick anyway. its more noticeble at the higher speeds.

My 0-60 is now around 4.5 and has done a verifed 0-60 with 2 people on board in 4.82. but the upgrade is the shove keeps going way past 90mph.

I would guess you would be looking under £1000 for a remap. Both will delimi your car so you may expect to get near 160mph if you had the conditions and of course if you needed. they will of course leave it alone if you ask them to.
