Hi,

Going to view a SLK32 AMG Sunday it's a 02 model with 64k and FSH.

Is there any known problems for me to look out for on this model ?

Ive heard performance is good and ride is ok.

If anyone who owns one on here with any tips i would be glad to here them.

Thanks

Just make sure when it starts theres no rattles from the center boxes, CATs are far from cheap!!

Apart from that, there pretty good cars!

I had the intercooler water circulation pump go at about 40k miles.....that's been the only issue particular to the AMG version that I have experienced so far....£250 to supply & fit at an indy. Explanation seems to be that pump is designed by Bosch to run in vertical position, (all Bosch pictures show verical orientation) but pump is mounted horizontally in SLK, so bearings wear prematurely. They fail around 40 to 60k miles apparently.
I also recently had the famous fluid leaking onto the PAS module, (my own fault, see my previous thread). This can affect all of the R170 SLK models (even some of the post-facelift ones). If any of the roof seals go, or you continually put the roof away when dripping wet, or in my case you spill a litre of fluid in the boot, the fluid finds the lowest point in the boot, which is the electronic circuit board of the PAS module. Results in corrosion of the terminals, loss of central locking, alarm problems etc. £400+ for fitting new module at an indy. Remedy is to invert the PAS module, with an extension wiring loom, keeping the electrics away from the water.
That said, the car has otherwise been faultless (fingers crossed) and a joy to drive. It's really quick (so it's heavy on juice...my choice and my pleasure), and such a pretty car. Roof is secure, unlike the fabric-roofed competition (Boxster, Honda S2000, Z4 etc)
S-A-M is right....and check the roof works properly.

Is rust an issue on these SLKs as it is on similar aged CLKs?

Hi,
The only things I have heard about these engines is the intercooler water circulation pump which SailorP has covered and a bearing on the front of the Kompressor (pulley I believe), which MB say you have to replace the Kompressor as a unit but the bearing can be replaced by sourcing from a bearing supplier for less than a tenner. I don,t believe rust was an issue with the SLK, at least not to the extent it was with the 208, 202 and 210.

He means PSE module (central locking). Other than that, very accurate!!

Just wondered if someone can answer a question for me.

Viewed the SLK32 AMG today and all seems well apart from the wheels, It has the standard AMG 5 spoke, on other cars i viewed the SLK 32 AMG have a indivdual type of AMG alloys ? It has brand new Michelin Pilots on so it got me thinking that they were stolen off car and replaced, the seller said he did not know.

Any idea weather they had a option on the wheels from new ?

Thanks

johno....
I have wheel2 on mine, so yours may have been changed?
I seem to recall wheel1 appearing on C32s, which have the same wheel/tyre size combination...Uncle Benz may be able to confirm. Size shouldn't be an issue
There are knock-off AMG wheels around.....or a previous owner may have changed them.
You may be able to get someone to look up the original spec to see which wheel was originally supplied. Malcolm can advise if the Russian site differentiates between the two models of wheel
My set up is:
Front
Tyre 225/45ZR17 91Y 32psi
Wheel 7.5Jx17 H2 ET37
Rear
Tyre 245/40ZR17 91Y 35psi
Wheel 8.5Jx17 H2 ET34
And sorry about calling the PSE module the PAS....acronyms abound in my job, and I can't keep up any more....getting confused in my dotage.
