I'm currently considering buying a SLK320, but I've seen a report on HonestJohn.co.uk that this model is starting to exhibit terminal problems with the cat, to the tune of £1400....Can't find anything to confirm this in the forums, can anyone enlighten me

You'll have to be a bit more specific, with the year.

I have heard of Cats going in the SL 320 V6 (m112 engine), but it does not seem to be all that widespread.........(fingers crossed)

PS.......This is being moved to the engine section

Specifics

My budget means I'm looking at a 2000 or 2001 model. Sorry but I'm not clued up enough to give engine type appropriate to these years. Did the engine change in these models, is there anything in the 320 SLK model history that means I should lean towards one model year more than the other? (ie. did the engine change in these model years)..Couldn't find anything on postings last night to indicate this....Any guidence appreciated....

Soory Slkmaybe,

was away for a few days. The 320 engine is same in all the SLK320s. It is the same engine as on my SL. It an M112 V6 engine.

I have done a search throughout this forum, and found one SLK cat going on an SLK320. A cat can go on any car, as with Andrew's post before. But as far as I see it, there is a certain ammount of bad luck.

Some people have posted that the reason their cat 'gave up' was because they were driving around with a faulty MAF sensor; and the extra rich mixture was the cause.

If you are unfortunate enough to have a failure, there are other options available besides the MB dealer one.
