It appears I will have to remove my fuel tank and clean it out.

So does anyone have info on removing the tank from a 1990 250td ?
Or a drawing of where the fixings are?

Thanks

The fact that I had the fuel pipes blown through back to the tank and it was ok for a few days and then it stopped again yesterday, but obviously the crap is still in the tank ,so it will keep clogging.

Have you cleaned the strainer?

Blowing pipes back is never going to fix a contamination problem.

Quite easy to remove once pipes and sender are disconected. However the nuts around the outside will no doubt be rusted up. Why not try and clean it out in situ?

Not sure if that model has a strainer, you could try changing the small filter under the air filter, hope this helps.

I would be *really* surprised not to find one. Most older MB diesels have a remarkably similar low pressure fuel system.

Gunslinger, what are the first six numbers of your chassis number? It'll probably read something like

WDBxxxxxx

Where x represnts the number

I've not done this on my Merc yet, but have had several occasions where I've flushed tanks out on other cars.
It's usually easier to do in situ. All doors windows open, and a manual or air driven syphon pump, rag on a bendy stick (devices to that effect), and some fresh fuel, has done the trick for me?
