I don`t know if this is a common one but I find in the mornings mostly the gear change takes too long to go up 3rd to 4th .
Dipped the box with a wire stick and the oil looks clean and doesn`t smell bad but I`m not sure about the level.

Just how far in would it go to get the right depth on the stick. It is a made up one and if its an issue I`ll buy the right one from eBay.

Mebbe getting paranoid as well but there sounds like a whine when rolling slow down hill in low revs from somewhere....

Any guidance is much appreciated.

When cold the 'box will hang on to the gears to help the warming up process. Not sure if that could be what you are experiencing.

Regarding the AFT level, personally I would get the proper dipstick for the job.

A home made stick needs to be showing 7 cm up the stick, many on Ebay do not have the shoulder fitted to the stick.

Cold cars hang onto 2nd to third and not 3rd to fourth usually

Most notice a huge improvement if the fluid has never been changed and most do it at every 40k miles
