sluggish w124 1990 300e 24v

I have a 1990 very sluggish w124, its sluggish and when i mean sluggish i can have my foot flat on the floor for 10/15 seconds before i get any sort of spped out of the car, and this is hot or cold, but some days i get in the car after it sitting still for a few days and it takes off like a dream, but even then its always slow when im trying to pick up speed going round corners i know it sounds funny but its true.
Ok to make life easier its recently been serviced had all new plugs, new leads, new filters but still a really crap perforamance. It currently stands at 158,000 miles but i believe the 300e and especially the 24valve model should give really good perforamance but this at the moment drives like a dog

Is it extremely economical by any chance?
Sound like it's running on air. probably due to a dodgy injection sensor. The W210's go like that when the air mass sensor dies - My Granada did it with a knock sensor failure - basically wont put any fuel into the cylinders as it thinks it's running too rich already. Get an injection specialist to give it the once over.

It maybe worth checking your LAMDA sensor and Cat

The cat may have collapsed or one of the silencers causing a blockage in the exhaust . Give this a try .

1st answer is NOOOOOOOOOO its very un economical running on something like 15 mpg.
I know that 2 of you mentioned sensors, dodgy injection sensor and LAMDA sensors. Are these the same things and can i check them myself, and if so where are they located.
Also the CAT how would i check that, and how would i know if ive got a blockage in the exhaust, must say been recently through a strict MOT and they mentioned nothing about what was or not being blown out of the exhaust.

I just wanna get this old dog driving unlike miss daisy and get it cheaper to run, currently putting 70quid plus a week..
