My C200 cdi was smashed beyond repair yesterday :( I loved that car though no fault of my own just out with the family, No one was hurt.
So will how much will I get off the insurance enough to pay for the cab to get back home?

How much will I get C200 cdi auto 53 plate 77,000 mile zero rust excellent condition.

I think its me that's going to lose out here. regards Gaz

ps I would like a CL500 next.

Sorry to hear that your car is to be no more :( but you are all fine.

Yeah lots of threads on insurers and 'worth', and even salvage if your inclined.
Its not only a shock to have an accident, but to loose your car is like one of the family.
Insurer's dont cover grief though.
To me the worst thing of all I detest is all the paper work.
Nothing keeps my driving more sensibly and defensively than the prospect of filling in reams of pointless forms.
And then again each time you come to renew.

Please keep us updated.

If not your fault, then you wil be dealing with the other party's insurance ( the third party)..you are entitled to a hire car of similar spec to your own for at least 2 weeks .
Do not accept the first or any offer they send you until you are happy with the amount.
If you have looked after the car well then it should be worth more that trade price.
Keep us posted on how you progress.
Just to say the third party insurance will normally offer you much more than your own Insurance company will..

Start trolling autotrader and the like to find out what a similar spec car goes for. My wife's car was written off a couple of years ago and the insurance company offered us what they thought it was worth.
A few adverts from autotrader showing similar mileage, year and spec vehicles resulted in a much higher payout from them.
They expect you to push back from their first offering so have the info to hand.
I feel for your loss, the most important thing is that you and your family are safe. The car, dare I say it, is only a piece of metal and can be replaced.

End of thread.

The car did it's ultimate job in protecting you and your family.

Money can replace a car but not your loved ones.

Hi
Thank you all very much for the advice I will take note and keep you posted of the out come.
This was my first Mercedes it will not be the last, there are many models to choose from, addicted now!
I am a mechanic by trade so a CL500 would be a toy for sure.
I don't do massive mileage and will be my 2nd car,
had a Camaro many years by brother had a Pontiac so I understand thirsty ness :) I will have a read up on big Mercedes.
Kind regards Gaz

+1. Though it's a loss, the car did its job.

As has been said trawl the "used" for value. Try to print out a few with similar spec to your own. Any recent invoices for servicing and repairs from specialists or main agents with mileage will also help establish the condition of the car. A couple of recent good pictures of the car prior to it demise might also help. DEPENDING ON THE COMPANY they usually come in with a lowish settlement value and wait to see if you challenge it. Show them you have an awareness of its true market value and they usually up it a bit. Don't expect miracles though.

sorry to hear of your accident...having owned a CL500 W215, they are a great car! and bargain of the century in my opinion, you can pick up a good un for £5k! if you do low mils running costs isn't that bad...just make sure the ABC struts are A1, as they will cost £1500 per corner to replace, never had an issue with mine...lots of good advice on here about W215.

Thank you DSB I have been doing my home work on the CL500 reading reports and road tests.
it will be a toy so running cost don't really come in to it.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Just remember that the other side will try and get you to settle for trade price.

But you are not a trader! - You need to buy a car of similar spec, age, mileage and quality, and that means paying retail to someone to get a warranty and so forth.

Therefore you need to make sure they pay you retail not trade and don't be fobbed off!

They are in a bad position - you are not at fault the other party is, so whereas your insurance co. could dig their heels in, the longer they procrastinate the more it will cost them because you are entitled to hire a sensibly equivalent car until the matter is resolved and they have paid you a "reasonable" amount (as long as you aren't stupidly greedy).

Good luck

Did you step in something nasty lately? All your luck is bad is seems.

Did you have to pay an excess in case of an accident on your hire car? If so, say goodbye to that. Hopefully the rental company will give you another car.

Dear me
That's what I call bad luck.
But never the less in both cases you and your family are unhurt which is the most important thing.
Hope everything goes well for you from now on.
