Occasionally when the engine has run some distance, smoke erupts unexpectedly from the bonnet and front passenger side. I suspect it's caused by over gauged oil from the auto gear box dropping on the hot exhaust at high speed. The side opening of the gear box was once opened by a mechanic who replaced some rubber linings. The issue abated for a while but now it still happens occasionally. I also guess it has to do with applying brakes sharply. I have an old Benz 230E with Chassis #WDB123...........

Please help.

This could be from many things, you will have to look under the car after a run, and when it is hot.

ATF sure makes a lot of smoke when in contact with a hot exhaust!
As I found out recently when spilling a little.
